Lunar New Year Celebration
Lunar New Year Celebration

On February 15, 2025, the Cherry Creek Valley Rotary Club of Parker proudly participated in the Lunar New Year Celebration at the PACE Center in Parker, Colorado. This vibrant event, held from 10:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., brought the community together to celebrate the Year of the Snake.

The celebration featured traditional performances, martial arts demonstrations, and hands-on activities, providing attendees with an immersive cultural experience. The Cherry Creek Valley Rotary Club of Parker was honored to partner and support this event, alongside organizations such as the Dragon Boat Festival, Great Wall Chinese Academy, Global Village Academy, Denver Chinese School, FirstBank, Douglas County School District, and Asian Avenue Magazine.

The event’s success was evident in the enthusiastic participation of community members, who enjoyed mini classes, live entertainment, and family-friendly activities that highlighted the rich traditions and customs of the Lunar New Year. The Cherry Creek Valley Rotary Club of Parker looks forward to continuing its partnership in future celebrations, fostering cultural appreciation and community engagement.

Cherry Creek Valley Rotary Club of Parker had an engaging visitor from the Dublin, CA Rotary Club. We exchanged our flags and discussed the goals of each of our clubs. We also had Bryce Matthews from the Parker Community Development Department. Bryce presented and excellent overview of the growth and projects that are listed for construction in the Parker community. Lots of residential buildings, including a large amount of apartments, commercial and mixed-use development projects are in the works. You can check all the planned zoned areas in detail on their website https://www.parkerco.gov/112/Community-Development .

On January 22nd 2025 at our scheduled meeting we had several inspiring speakers! Our club presented Caleb Kelsey, local senior at Legend high school, a trophy and $100 gift for for student of the month. Caleb is very involved in the Criminal Justice System Club at Legend. High goal is to ensure students are aware of the law and how it might affect each of them.
CEC Interact Club- President Jacey Cohen- gave a wonderful presentation on her trip to Croatia through the Global Leadership Conference Scholarship. Jacey also spoke about how emotional it was to receive hand written letters from her parents at the end of the conference. Jacey will be attending Pikes Peak State College to continue her advance studies in ALS.
Robert Mintz- is an inspirational speaker with vast experience working for years with Rotary International. He is currently a member of the morning Cherry Creek Club that meets in Cherry Creek. Robert has worked with the Rotary Exchange Program as well as International Relations throughout his career. He has hosted 3 exchange students himself as well as helping others with funding and logistics for this program.

"Rotary, An Expression of Who We Are"

Today January 8th, 2025 was our first meeting for the 2025 New Year! We welcomed Tamara Fennell, Rotary District Governor, to our first meeting of the year to inspire us for an amazing 2025 in the Cherry Creek Valley Rotary Club of Parker. She presented our club and our past president Nate DeVine with a certificate of recognition for our donation work with Polio in the 2023-2024 rotary year.

In addition, Tamara provided an impactful speech regarding being a rotary member and the change in the lives of people we impact as well as ourselves. We shared some personal stories and insight into some of the projects that had meaning to us. Members also shared how these projects had meaning to them in transforming the lives of the community they are helping.

Tamara Fennell shared her passion for mobility and mental illness where she had personally been affected growing up. She now uses her experiences to advocate for the Rotary Endowment to provide additional resources for the Pediatric Mental Health Project through Anschutz Hospital in Aurora.

We also recognize club member Larry McLaughlin for his 40 YEARS in Rotary and Rotary International.

Cherry Creek Valley Rotary Club of Parker is excited and ready for a great 2025!

The Joy of Christmas
This has been a busy few weeks for Parker's Cherry Creek Valley Rotary Club (CCVRC) as we head towards the holiday season. Did you know that CCVRC recognizes outstanding youth from our community throughout the school year through the club's "Student of the Month Award" program? This month, the club honored Reece Wyant and Riley Thomas from Cimmaron Middle School (CMS) with an award and a check for $100 to recognize their school and community involvement and activities, academic achievements, and leadership skills. Reece and Riley are also members of the CMS Rotary Interact Club. The Cherry Creek Valley Rotary Club supports three Interact Clubs at Cimmaron Middle School, Legend High School, and Colorado Early College Parker.

On November 23, members of CCVRC assisted the Parker Task Force with their annual Thanksgiving Food Drive. Throughout the day, members of CCVRC and local youth could be found at the Parker Safeway store collecting food and monetary donations. This is another example of our members' commitment to service by assisting a local non-profit and community members in need!

CCVRC will continue spreading holiday cheer throughout the Parker community throughout December with our signature Christmas project. Throughout the month, club members will visit three assisted living centers in Parker and the Sky Ridge Medical Center dressed as Santa Claus, Mrs. Claus, and Santa's elves. We will come bearing goodwill, cheer, and gifts as we work to spread some good old-fashioned Christmas spirit, hope, and joy!

On December 7, our club spread some holiday cheer by participating in the annual Parker Hometown Christmas Parade. We were joined by members from our satellite club, Cherry Creek Valley United, and local youth. Our members decorated a large float and handed out candy and crayons along the route. Afterward, club members enjoyed good food and cheer at our Annual Holiday Celebration!

Valley Hope of parker
The Cherry Creek Valley Rotary of Parker purchased over 100 backpacks and toiletries for the new patients at Valley Hope Treatment Center of Parker.  The new patients are entering the facility with basically nothing.  The backpacks will give the patients a place to store their personal items.  The backpacks also contained soap, shaving supplies, shampoo & conditioner, nail clippers, socks, combs/brushes, lotion, ChapStick, Kleenex, and a note from the Cherry Creek Valley Rotary of Parker club.  The staff has already told us this is making the new patients feel human again.
