Today's keynote speaker, Karen Owen-Lee who offers a free Senior Housing Placement Service, shared her expertise as a second-generation geriatric specialist.  Karen encouraged all of us to develop plans for the care of the seniors in our lives, even to know what to do in case a friend or neighbor has a major health event.  The most important documents for seniors (and really all of us at any stage of adulthood) to have pre-established are: a will, a living will, and power of attorney.  She encouraged us to have an envelope on the refrigerator for each person which has 911 on the outside and a current insurance card, power of attorney, and medical information (doctors, current medications, & allergies) which EMS workers know to look for and take if an emergency ambulance ride is necessary.  She also said it's a good idea to have a lock box with a key code which good friends and neighbors know in case emergency access is necessary.  Karen wrote a book titled The Caring Code.  For more information see  www.HousingOptionsforSeniors.com.

We also heard from George Lewman about help needed for set-up and take-down around this Saturday's 3 pm Key Ceremony for Sgt Matt Parker, who will be receiving his accessible home in Franktown through Homes for our Troops.  If you can help, please rsvp at http://www.hfotusa.org/parker or even just show up!  It will be warming up Saturday, though still cold, so heaters will be provided for this warm "welcome home!"

Mike Oldham from the morning Parker Rotary presented his enthusiasm and support for the Denver Indian Center, which is holding its annual fundraising dinner & entertainment event on March 14 at the Denver Art Museum.  This event will be emceed by Broncos' wide receiver Mark Jackson, including a silent auction of amazing jewelry and other native-produced items plus a three-course catered dinner, a variety show, awards presentation, and laughter led by comedian Tatanka Means.  To get tickets and learn more about all the good programs the Denver Indian Center provides, go to www.denverindiancenter.org.
