Senior Housing Placement Service, Denver Indian Center,Homes for our Troops
Today's keynote speaker, Karen Owen-Lee who offers a free Senior Housing Placement Service, shared her expertise as a second-generation geriatric specialist. Karen encouraged all of us to develop plans for the care of the seniors in our lives, even to know what to do in case a friend or neighbor has a major health event. The most important documents for seniors (and really all of us at any stage of adulthood) to have pre-established are: a will, a living will, and power of attorney. She encouraged us to have an envelope on the refrigerator for each person which has 911 on the outside and a current insurance card, power of attorney, and medical information (doctors, current medications, & allergies) which EMS workers know to look for and take if an emergency ambulance ride is necessary. She also said it's a good idea to have a lock box with a key code which good friends and neighbors know in case emergency access is necessary. Karen wrote a book titled The Caring Code.
